Keratoconus

The cornea is the clear window into the eye. A normal cornea is shaped like a contact lens and has no blood vessels. It is about 550 microns thick in the center of the cornea. Light passes through the cornea and the lens, and is then focused onto the retina. If the cornea is opaque, swollen, or has an irregular shape, vision can be severely impaired.
