LASIK FAQ

Am I a candidate for LASIK?

Generally, to be considered for LASIK, you need to be 18 years or older and have a stable eyeglass prescription for at least 1 year. People with certain eye conditions, such as dry eye and thin corneas, may not be good candidates. A complimentary LASIK evaluation will be performed, which includes a thorough eye exam along with diagnostic testing, to ensure you are a good candidate for LASIK.

What is done at the LASIK evaluation?

The purpose of the evaluation is to thoroughly examine your eyes to see if you are a good candidate for LASIK. Our doctor will perform several tests, including corneal topography, corneal pachymetry, and refraction.

Will I need glasses after LASIK?

LASIK reduces the need to wear distance glasses. But as you age, reading glasses may still be needed.

How long does the surgery take?

The actual procedure takes about 7-10 minutes per eye. However, you should expect to be at the surgery center for about 2 hours to complete the entire process including check-in, pre-op exam, and post-op exam.

When will I see an improvement in vision?

LASIK has a quick recovery time with most patients experiencing clearer vision within the same day as their procedure or by the next day.

Is LASIK painful?

During the procedure, a topical anesthesia will be applied to numb the eye so you won’t feel any pain. Most patients experience little to no discomfort.

What are the possible risks?

LASIK is a very safe procedure and has minimal risk. Like any surgical procedure, LASIK does have some complications that could occur including dry eye and night glare. All risks will be discussed with you at your evaluation.

Does insurance cover LASIK?

Most insurance plans do not cover LASIK. It is considered an elective surgery.

Can I use my Flexible Spending Account (FSA)?

Yes. LASIK is an eligible expense to be paid using your pre-tax FSA funds.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. We realize LASIK is an investment and offer financing through Care Credit which includes 0% interest options to help fit your budget.
