Fractional CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing Reduces brown spots, wrinkles, and laxity
ActiveFX is a premier laser treatment that tightens, tones, and reduces skin pigmentation. With dramatic and long-lasting results, this quick and simple procedure is perfect for restoring a youthful and healthy appearance to the face, neck, hands, and chest.
Is ActiveFX safe?
ActiveFX is safe for most skin types and, as a non-invasive cosmetic treatment, is a great way to achieve noticeable results quickly.
What is the treatment like?
During the treatment, a topical lidocaine anesthetic is applied to the treatment areas for about 30 minutes. The technician will then gently cleanse the skin and Dr. Bruce Stark will mark out the treatment areas, noting any areas of specific concern. To customize your treatment, Dr. Stark will select settings based on your skin type and specific treatment goals. For increased comfort, the technician will apply cool air as Dr. Stark treats each area. Most people experience little to no discomfort. After the laser is complete, the technician will apply Aquafor® to cool the treated areas.
Who is a candidate for ActiveFX?
Skin type is one of the important factors in identifying appropriate treatments and determining if you are a candidate. Prior to treatment, we will consult with you regarding your complexion and tendency to tan or burn. Darker skin types may not be candidates for this treatment. If you are currently tanned from recent sun exposure, tanning beds, or artificial tanning; or currently use photosensitive medications, Accutane, or Retin-A, you are not a good candidate. However, if you wait at least one month you may be re-evaluated for ActiveFX. People with a history of keloid scarring may also not be a candidate.
When will I see results?
Skin tightening begins to occur as the treated areas exfoliate and new skin regenerates. Visual results from the rebuilding of collagen and elastin will occur gradually and will show continued improvement over the next few months.
Are there any side effects?
Local redness will appear following the treatment, lasting approximately 4-5 days, and sometimes forming a crust which will flake off in a few days. Eyelid swelling is most common, but you may have mild swelling in the treatment areas which will dissipate in 2-3 days. Although uncommon, other more serious side effects are blistering, excessive bleeding (if you take blood thinners), scarring, infection, hyperpigmentation, and hypopigmentation.
Is there any downtime or restrictions?
After treatment, you should cleanse with a gentle cleanser 2-3 times daily, continue to apply Aquafor®, and apply cool, moist paper towels to relieve any “sunburn” sensation. While the skin is healing, you should avoid exposure to unsanitary conditions (dust, pet dander, smoke), avoid excessive heat, and sleep with head elevated for a few days to reduce any swelling in the eyelids. You may shower, but avoid directing hot water on treated areas.
What can I do to get the best results from these treatments?
First, and most importantly, we recommend daily use of a broad-spectrum sunscreen SPF-30 or higher. Additionally, we recommend using quality skin care products. After your ActiveFX treatment, we will provide you with a SkinMedica® skin care kit to help maintain your new healthy glow. Ask us about our complete line of SkinMedica skin care products and we can happily recommend which products would benefit your skin and beauty routine the most.
How often should I get an ActiveFX treatment?
We recommend you get an ActiveFX treatment once a year to maintain your results.
