Cataract Laser Surgery
Over the years, cataract surgery has seen many advancements, including the latest innovation, Catalys® Precision Laser System. The cataract surgeons at Chester County Eye Care offers laser cataract surgery as an option to our patients for a more customizable, predictable, and accurate procedure. While traditional cataract surgery can still be an excellent treatment option when conducted by a skilled eye surgeon, cataract laser surgery may be able to better improve visual acuity in certain individuals.
Benefits of Laser Cataract Surgery
For the right patients, cataract laser surgery offers a number of advantages over traditional treatment methods. Key benefits of this state-of-the-art procedure can include:
- 3D mapping of each eye for enhanced predictability
- Unparalleled treatment customization
- Laser-precise accuracy for incision-making
- Gentler removal of the clouded lens
- Precise implantation of the intraocular lens (IOL)
Ultimately, using advanced laser technology helps to make cataract surgery more streamlined and exact than ever before.
About the Catalys® Precision Laser System
The Catalys® Precision Laser System is a femtosecond laser which is computer-controlled and allows the surgeon to create a detailed 3D map of your eye before the surgery for a customized treatment. It is also used to perform a few steps during the cataract surgery that traditionally has been manually completed by the surgeon—making the corneal incisions and breaking up the cloudy lens for a more gentle removal.
Cataract laser surgery may also be used to correct astigmatism. Astigmatism is when the cornea is irregularly shaped like a football instead of being round which causes blurry vision. During laser cataract surgery, astigmatism may be corrected by the surgeon placing a small precise incision in the cornea to simply make it rounder.
What to Expect after Cataract Laser Surgery
Following laser cataract surgery, you will be provided a post-surgical list of instructions, including how often and for how long to administer eye drops. The day after your procedure, you will need to return to our office for a follow-up visit to ensure your eye is healing properly. While total recovery time will vary per individual, most patients are able to return to normal daily activities relatively quickly, and a noticeable improvement in vision is often apparent within a few days.
